“Bhikkhus, without having abandoned nine things, one is incapable of realizing arahantship. What nine? Lust, hatred, delusion, anger, hostility, denigration, insolence, envy, and miserliness. Without having abandoned these nine things, one is incapable of realizing arahantship.
“Bhikkhus, having abandoned nine things, one is capable of realizing arahantship. What nine? Lust, hatred, delusion, anger, hostility, denigration, insolence, envy, and miserliness. Having abandoned these nine things, one is capable of realizing arahantship.”
